Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, has welcomed Amber Rudd’s decision to resign as Home Secretary for misleading Parliament about the Home Office’s immigration policy. Emma said, “It is right that Amber Rudd has done the honourable thing and resigned as Home Secretary.

“I will be speaking again in Parliament today to raise the case of my constituent Paulette Wilson who was wrongfully detained at Yarl’s Wood. Paulette came to the UK in 1968 at the age of 10 and has lived and worked here for 50 years.

“However the matter doesn’t stop at the resignation of the Home Secretary, the government still has serious questions to answer about the appalling and inhumane way the Windrush generation has been treated.”

“The government needs to ensure that Paulette and others are properly compensated and earn back their trust by moving quickly to grant them citizenship. I am calling on the new Home Secretary to urgently resolve this awful national scandal.”
