Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, has sent a message to those attending the Vaisakhi celebrations and the procession from the Well Lane Gurdwara in Wednesfield in her constituency to the Willenhall Gurdwara on Sunday 9 April. (This year Vaisakhi falls on Friday 14 April). Emma said: “As the Member of Parliament for the past seven years, I am proud to have supported the Sikh community in Wolverhampton and am looking forward to celebrating Vaisakhi. As I am not able to attend this year’s celebrations, I have written to the Secretaries of the Gurdwaras to convey my best wishes to their congregation on this great occasion.

“The celebration of Vaisakhi has a long tradition in Wolverhampton. The procession is always a joyous and colourful occasion that unites people across the city. That’s because Vaisakhi is a wonderful community celebration, which brings together people of all faiths and ethnicities.

“The Sikh community has a proud history in our city. Sikhs in Wolverhampton and across the country make a tremendous contribution to their communities.”
