Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton and a new mom, is giving her support to World Breastfeeding Week. This week is World Breastfeeding Week and Emma is encouraging everyone to give your support to breastfeeding by sharing their stories and thoughts about breastfeeding and by sharing their stories on social media, using the hashtag #WolvesBFF and #WBW2017 when posting messages of support.

Emma said, “The many benefits for mother and baby of breastfeeding are long established and recognised and it’s great that so many places are now breastfeeding friendly. Some of the benefits include:

  • Breast milk is perfectly designed for baby
  • Breast milk helps protect your baby against infections and diseases
  • Breastfeeding provides health benefits for mothers too
  • Breastfeeding can build a strong emotional bond between mother and baby

“But it wasn’t so long ago when new mothers did not feel comfortable, and weren’t encouraged or supported to breastfeed in public.

“There can be nothing worse for a new mother, with all the pressures and joys of a new arrival, if she doesn’t feel she can breastfeed her babies when they need feeding and I welcome the rejection of the notion that breastfeeding in public is somehow socially unacceptable.

“So let’s all celebrate together the many joys and benefits of breastfeeding and commit to encouraging others to try it with their new babies.”
