Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East has expressed her support for the Express and Star who have conducted a crime survey. The results are very worrying but unfortunately not surprising. Emma said, “The Tory government have made massive cuts to the police. We have lost over 2,000 police officers in the West Midlands. There have also been huge cuts to local services which support people with mental health problems and addiction. We have seen a very worrying surge in violent crime, in particular knife crime. There have also been recent shootings in my constituency including a murder in the Park Village area.

“It is no wonder that the public are losing confidence and complain about not seeing Bobbies on the beat. It is ridiculous to try to blame the Police and Crime Commissioner. This situation is down to decisions taken by this Tory government and in particular Theresa May who was Home Secretary for 6 years. We need more resources for West Midlands Police and an increase in the number of police officers. I hope that the government will think again and urgently give our region the funding we need.”
